These are no doubt stressful times. And, if you are dealing with a chronic health challenge, the lockdown and social isolation are added stressors for many. Here are some things that we have found helpful to manage stress:
-
Practice daily gratitude- This goes a long, long way in helping many simply survive. This does not have to be complicated! Think of 3 things you are grateful for each day and write them down. If you don’t have time, just say them out loud!
-
Practice daily forgiveness- Holding on to past hurts, and things people have said or done to you can create many blockages for healing. For true healing to occur, one must start to let go of those past hurts. Most people find that the most difficult thing to do is to forgive themselves. There are many forgiveness prayers, but the one that is sometimes the most effective is: “I forgive and I ask for forgiveness”. If you need help, reach out to a friend, your pastor, your local church or synagogue, etc.
-
Try to find the deep, hidden meaning of your journey. For whatever reason, this difficult challenge has been placed in front of you. ‘Why me?’ is a common emotion.
-
If you are struggling with a particular health challenge, realize that many are currently on a similar journey and have overcome many obstacles to healing. They are now some of the greatest doctors and teachers whom you may have heard of. Dr. Klinghardt, MD Ph.D., for example, has overcome Lyme disease after a 20-year struggle. Dr. Rawls, MD had a similar struggle. Scott Ferguson aka Better Health Guy had a similar journey. Dr. Lu MD, Ph.D. overcame thyroid issues and fatigue. Jill Crista, ND overcame Mold illness. Similarly, I struggled with a mystery chronic health issue for about ten years. Read about my story here. There are many other inspiring stories out there. The point is you are not alone and if they can do it, so can you!

To have the courage to do the above, engaging in a daily meditative/contemplative practice is key. Just 5 minutes of simple breathing meditation can have profound health benefits. If you need help with meditation and you are in the Atlanta area, there are many local resources for this. Please contact our office for more info.
-
Surround yourself with those who love and nurture you.
-
Daily journaling for at least 20 min per day can be a great way to unlock the subconscious and bring about healing.
-
Try to get in Nature as much as possible. Even if that means putting your feet in the grass just for 15 minutes…This is called ‘Grounding’. It has a very good effect and has real science behind it. If you don’t have time for this consider purchasing a grounding mat…For more information, go to https://www.earthing.com/
-
Get some sunshine…Getting proper sunlight exposure can be beneficial in so many ways, from stimulating the immune system to giving a much-needed boost in Serotonin and other important neurotransmitters like Dopamine. Maintaining a vitamin D level is critical to achieving a healthy immune system. Shoot for an optimal range of 60-100 ng/ml. Try to get at least 15 min of sunshine per day.

One of the most highly effective strategies you can use at home is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). This technique involves tapping through certain meridians on your body while reciting certain affirmations.

There are also great apps for meditation and learning how to deal with stress. We like the HeadSpace app as well as Insight Timer. They have free trial versions.

USE DAILY AFFIRMATIONS. If you are struggling with a chronic health issue, the most common one is: “I will be well. I shall be well. Others will think of me as being well” ALSO: “All my capacities for healing lie within. With the help of the highest authority (enter your personal higher power here), I shall overcome all obstacles and achieve lasting wellness” There are many others that can be determined by advanced biofeedback.
